Notes on the pieces
Following our sell-out first concert in June, our second concert presents music by Mozart, Schubert, Grieg and Mackenzie.
The strings – who played in the first concert – play Grieg's Holberg Suite, and the new woodwind section have their solo opportunity with another Serenade by Mozart for pairs of oboes, clarinets, bassoons and horns.
The strings and woodwind combine for the unashamedly romantic Benedictus by the great Scottish melodist Alexander Mackenzie, Mozart's sublime Clarinet Concerto with Carron Shankland as soloist, and Schubert's joyful 5th Symphony.
